The "Cantonese Culture Spokesman Final and Closing Ceremony of Yuexiu Temple Fair" was held in Zhongyou Square in front of Chenghuang Temple on February 28, bringing to a close the sixth Yuexiu Temple Fair to be sponsored by Times Property. Times Property Vice President Guan Jianhui and Times Property President's Assistant Liang Hui attended the event, at which they shared in a memorable conclusion to the beautiful gathering of Guangzhou citizens. 

Times Property Offers Support for Yuexiu Temple Fair, Preserving Folk Culture

The Yuexiu Temple Fair, a folk cultural event of the Han Chinese in Guangdong Province, is traditionally held in Guangzhou's Yuexiu District during the Lantern Festival, specifically from the fifteenth through twenty-first days of the first month on the lunar calendar. Times Property sponsored the fair for a sixth time, doing so in the hope that such support might help to convey and preserve this iconic festival, providing an opportunity for Guangzhou citizens to experience the joy and delights of traditional culture.

The theme of the latest temple fair--"Yuexiu Temple Fair, a Gathering for Happiness"--made it clear that this was a carnival for Cantonese culture. The seven-day festival comprised a selection of ten events, including a puppet show, Chinese talent show, martial-arts performance and a lantern show in honor of the Lantern Festival. Thus, it emphasized the color and creativity of traditional culture in all its aspects, among which are prayer, folk customs, delicacies, leisure and trade.

Temple Fair: A Feast for Five Million People 

The 2016 Yuexiu Temple Fair was groundbreaking in many ways. For example, Ao, a giant sea turtle prominent in Chinese mythology, was adopted as the mascot of 2016 Yuexiu Temple Fair, proclaiming that each of us should "dare to be a pioneer and stand first on the list." Additionally, honor was accorded to the Five Rams and Five Immortals of the Ram City as well as the connotation of a praying culture, to which were added such characteristic activities as an ancestral temple fair, a fashionable Cantonese market and a Cantonese teen culture carnival. Overall, the Cantonese folk cultural show tour was highlighted by innovative content, going so far as to combine "tour and joint performance" for the first time.

Ultimately, this year's Yuexiu Temple Fair featured at least 70 programs and more than 280 events. The number of visitors was staggering, too: At least five million people attended it! 

The host of the Temple Fair expressed hope that the Temple Fair would help ensure the prosperity of a unique brand image for Cantonese folk cultural activities. Additionally, it is hoped that the event, going forward, will encourage the cohesion and influence of Cantonese culture, enrich and enliven the cultural life of the public, create a strong festival atmosphere, encourage awareness of Cantonese culture and serve as a happy gathering for the people of Guangzhou. Quite fittingly, Times Property will continue to support the preservation and growth of traditional folk culture.
