Times City (Foshan) will host the 2014 Thousand People Square Dance Competition in Sanshui at the end of this year, and applications are now open. The activity is co-held by Times City (Foshan) in Sanshui and Culture, Sports and Tourism Administration of Sanshui District. Under the theme of "Blooming at Times, Dancing in Sanshui," the activity aims to provide a stage for the general public who love square dance. The preliminary contest is planned to be held from the end of November to the middle of December, and applications are now open.

According to the person in charge of the sponsor, due to the functions of bodybuilding, heart strengthening, and brain fitness, square dance has been well-received by people of diverse age groups and become an indispensable part of citizens' urban life. Apart from enriching the daily life of masses, square dance can enhance the sense of belonging and cohesiveness towards their community, neighborhood, and work unit, harmonizing the interpersonal relationship of residents and families, promoting benign development of social morality.

It is known that the applications will remain open from October 22 to November 30. Towns, neighborhoods, and government institutions of Sanshui District are eligible to form teams to participate. The competition targets at the whole district and all the people.

As is required, every team should consist of 18 to 30 people above 18 years old. The choreography of every program must conform to the features of the manifestation of the contest, square dance, i.e. flexibility and simplicity, enthusiasm and merriness, recreation, openness, and performing. The performing form is free for participants and the duration is no more than 6 minutes. Aerobics, rhythmic and artistic gymnastics, and professional dances are not allowed.
