The first Nanhai Entrepreneurs Educational Fund Teaching Awards and Scholarships Commendation Ceremony was held on August 22 in Nanhai, Foshan. In attendance was Mr. Shum Chiu Hung, the board chairman of Times Property Holdings Limited. Earlier, on August 8, the Nanhai Entrepreneurs Association for Promotion of Educational Development and the Nanhai Entrepreneurs Educational Fund were established. Mr. Shum Chiu Hung donated RMB 30 million on behalf of Times Property and took office as the first president of Nanhai Entrepreneurs Association for the Promotion of Educational Development.

Numerous teachers and students were inattendance for the ceremony. Together, they were like sparks that ignited thenew hope of education in Nanhai. At the ceremony, Huang Zhihao, a member of thestanding committee of the CPC Foshan Municipal Committee, executive vice-mayorand secretary of the Nanhai District Committee of the CPC stated emphatically,"Talents are the key to the future development of Nanhai, the basis ofwhich should therefore be education." According to Huang Zhihao, in theera of "Internet Plus," Nanhai maintains high quality in manufacturedproducts and nurtures the prosperity of brands. Additionally, Nanhai is nowbuilding itself into a core region in the Guangzhou-Foshan metropolitan area, acore region of national manufacturing, and an innovative center and pilotregion for comprehensive national reform. Moreover, Nanhai strives to becomethe innovation center of national robot integration, an emerging city forglobal makers, and a global product trans-boundary innovation center. A wealthof talented people will be needed in order to achieve such spectacular goals. Thus,the valuable tradition of attaching much significance to education should befurther upheld. Educational development should be promoted constantly.

The Nanhai Entrepreneurs Educational Fund raised RMB 78,020,000 over the course of just15 days. Mr. Shum Chiu Hung, the board chairman of Times Property Holdings Limited, played a leading role and donated RMB 30,000,000. (Furthermore, he serves as the first president of Nanhai Entrepreneurs Association for the Promotion of Educational Development.) Additionally, a group of entrepreneurs with passion for public welfare and education donated very generously. Nanhai Entrepreneurs Educational Fund not only raised money from philanthropists but also brought together their care and effort for the benefit of the cause.

At the first Nanhai Entrepreneurs Educational Fund Teaching Awards and Scholarships Commendation Ceremony, 999 teachers and 1,565 students received the awards and scholarships from the fund initiated by Nanhai Entrepreneurs Investment. Thus the awards and prizes went to 2,564 lucky individuals. The teachers were recognized for their special teaching skills, management skills or honorable ethics, excellence as class advisors and teaching assistants, excellence as logistics staff, excellence as volunteer teachers, leading principals and five-teacher teams, all of whom made significant contributions to the cause of quality education. The scholarship recipients were recognized for their high scores in the Middle School Entrance Examination, College Entrance Examination, various contests and those who have made special achievement.

Mr. Shum was born, raised and educated in Nanhai. After he started up his own business, he returned to Nanhai for investment and repaid his hometown through philanthropic activities. He said, "Nanhai enjoys very good education and has cultivated numerous excellent intellectuals. I hope that scholarships will truly benefit the winning students who can complete their schooling and then contribute to hometown construction through the use of their wisdom."

Before the establishment of Nanhai Entrepreneurs Educational Fund, Mr. Shum Chiu Hung has offered support for the development of education for several times. For example, he set up special teaching awards, scholarships and grants at multiple renowned universities across the country, encouraging teachers to make progress and supporting the education of a large number of students. He frequently organized his employees to teach in primary schools in remote and mountainous regions. He also built Hope primary schools at many places in the hope to support the development of local education. Additionally, Mr. Shum Chiu Hung initiated the establishment of Guangzhou Times Property Charity Foundation that serves a larger number of citizens, upholding the belief of "repaying the society by what I've been given." Since the establishment of Times Property Charity Foundation, it has built one special-education and rehabilitation building for a children's welfare institute, two general hospitals and 13 Hope schools. It has organized nearly 300 voluntary activities and helped more than 3,000 cataract patients recover their vision through free surgeries. Meanwhile, the Foundation has assisted 30,000 students from impoverished families to complete school. With support from the Times Museum, Times Charity Foundation assists in the construction of urban civilization by promoting local cultural and artistic activities. To date, Times Charity Foundation has donated more than RMB 300,000,000 to needy recipients.
