“Poverty-Relief Day in Guangdong” for 2020 was held on June 30. Li Xi, the secretary of Guangdong Provincial CPC Committee; Ma Xingrui, the deputy secretary of the Provincial CPC Committee and province governor; Li Yumei, director of the Standing Committee of Guangdong Provincial People's Congress; Wang Rong, the president of Guangdong Provincial Committee of CPPCC; Ye Zhenqin, a member of the Standing Committee of Guangdong Provincial CPC Committee, as well as other leaders of the province attended the ceremony. Times China Holdings Limited (“Times China”) pledged a donation of RMB 18 million via Guangdong Times Charity Foundation (“Times Foundation”).

Previously, Times China pledged a donation of RMB 7 million toward “Poverty-Relief Day in Guangdong” for 2020 of Guangzhou and Foshan. The cumulative donation amount pledged totaled RMB 25 million.

At the ceremony, Shum Chiu Hung, board chairman of Times China, was honored as an "Individual of Outstanding Contribution and Benevolence on the Tenth Anniversary of Poverty-Relief Day in Guangdong", and Times China was given the gold award in the “2019 Guangdong Kapok Cup”.

Times China has, for ten years, devoted effort in the cause of poverty relief

The year 2020 is one in which to achieve the goal of building a moderately well-off society in a comprehensive manner. It is also the year to secure final success of the tough battle for poverty relief and the tenth anniversary of Poverty-Relief Day in Guangdong. The Poverty Relief Office of Guangdong Province selected ten caring enterprises, ten caring individuals and ten social organizations. Shum Chiu Hung, board chairman of Times China, was honored as an "Individual of Outstanding Contribution and Benevolence on the Tenth Anniversary of Poverty-Relief Day in Guangdong" for his outstanding contribution. It was the inaugural designation of the honor, the purpose of which is to commend representative people from all walks of life who have, for ten years, participated in the Poverty-Relief Day campaign and contributed to the final battle for poverty relief and rural revitalization in Guangdong.

Shum Chiu Hung has participated in Poverty-Relief Day in Guangdong campaign for ten years without interruption. In addition to frequent donations of funds, Shum devoted effort to poverty relief and contributed to development in poverty-stricken areas and the final battle for poverty relief in Guangdong by supporting people's livelihood and poverty relief concerning industries, culture and education.

A donation of RMB 25 million for poverty relief

At the donation ceremony in 2020, Times China pledged a donation of RMB 18 million through the Times Foundation. Li Lingling, the secretary of the CPC Committee of Times China and president of Times Foundation, raised the cardboard to signal a donation. Gu Xingwei, the head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Guangdong, director of the Office of Rural Affairs of the Provincial CPC Committee and director of the Provincial Poverty Relief Office, accepted the donation from Times China as a representative. Previously, Times China pledged a donation of RMB 7 million on Poverty-Relief Day in Guangdong for 2020 in Guangzhou and Foshan. The pledged donation amount came to RMB 25 million.

RMB 25 million of donation pledged this year will be used for supporting people's livelihood and poverty relief concerning industries, healthcare and education in several prefecture-level cities in Sichuan, Guizhou and Guangdong. Times China participated in poverty-relief activities held by different prefecture-level cities from the 24th to 30th of June.
