FDSM held the 2020 Alumni Award Ceremony in Shanghai on the afternoon of May 9, 2021. The theme this year is “Fight the Pandemic & Take on Responsibility.” Mr. Shum, the board chairman of Times China, executive president of Fudan University EMBA Alumni Association and president of EMBA South China, was honored as a “Fudan University School of Management Alumnus of the Year 2020.”

The award speech reads: “At the outbreak of the pandemic, Mr. Shum Chiu Hung, the chairman of the Board of Directors of Times China, led the company to join hands and combat the virus. He collected five tons of medical protective materials worldwide, and donated RMB24 million to support the anti-pandemic effort and scientific research. Amid the struggle, Mr. Shum and Times China rose to the occasion and achieved a historic breakthrough in their business results. With a patriotic feeling unique to Chinese entrepreneurs, Mr. Shum contributed mightily in the battle against the pandemic and, in its aftermath, the recovery.”

The “Alumni of the Year” selection, first initiated in 2008, is a grand annual event and the vane for FDSM’s educational spirit. The selection of “Alumni of the Year 2020” under the theme “Fight the Pandemic and Take on Responsibility”, highlights a group of exemplary persons who demonstrate the responsibility and commitment to which the faculty of the School of Management aspires. After online nomination, rigorous screening and review, five individuals were chosen.

The year 2021 marks the centennial of the Communist Party of China, the opening of China's 14th Five-Year Plan, and the year of embarkation upon a new journey toward the fulfillment of our destiny as a modern socialist country.
