Contribution to public welfare has been a major part of Times China's corporate mission since 2003, when Times Foundation was established. Through the ensuing years it has focused on education, art, healthcare, poverty alleviation and disaster relief, actively shouldering corporate social responsibility and giving back to society through positive action.
Times Foundation, in 2020, donated more than RMB24 million in cash and medical supplies for the prevention and control of the epidemic amid the outbreak of COVID-19. Last year, Times Foundation pledged RMB18 million in the "Guangdong Poverty Alleviation Day,” and Board Chairman Shum Chiu Hung was honored as an "Individual of Outstanding Contribution and Benevolence on the Tenth Anniversary of Poverty-Relief Day in Guangdong.”
Additionally, Times China's "Field Blossom" project, launched by Times Foundation in September 2018, won the "Guangzhou Charity Program Influential Leaderboard" for the first time. Field Blossom is a crucial public-welfare project designed to offer and encourage quality art education in rural areas. Particularly, it promotes education from two aspects: the training of teachers and the upgrading of facilities. The Foundation will advance the quality development in underdeveloped areas so as to meet the objectives of poverty alleviation in terms of culture and education.
As of the end of December 2020, the coverage of Times China "Field Blossom" project extended to 14 prefecture-level cities in Guangdong Province and three other provinces, and 139 "Field Blossom" multifunctional art classrooms were built with funding from donations. Three groups of volunteer teachers have been dispatched to provide voluntary services, and more than 20,000 art classes were given. Online and offline training programs were provided for 15,000 teachers of music, art and physical education at primary and secondary schools in villages and towns. More than 80,000 students benefited from the program.
The public-welfare actions of Times China and Times Foundation were accorded considerable honors from society in 2020, receiving the "Gold Award of the Kapok Cup on 2019 Poverty-Relief Day in Guangdong,” "Benevolent Institution in the Battle Against the COVID-19 Pandemic" and others.
Times China and Times Foundation were thus honored by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Social Responsibility and Influence for a fifth straight year. The award is reflective of the government's recognition that the enterprises have actively participated in public-welfare undertakings for the benefit of society. Thus, Times China and Times Foundation will adhere to the original aspiration of public welfare and "give back" by continuing their participation in charitable causes.
